The British Gambling Commission is preparing the first study of the black market, which in the future will help to better track the operations of illegals. In its statement, the regulator explains: better understanding how and why consumers get to unlicensed sites can open new ways to identify such resources and evaluate their use, writes iGB.
The regulator expects that through the study it will improve the effectiveness of black market monitoring and help to take the first step in assessing its scale.

One of the goals is to measure the level of income of illegal companies. The researchers plan to determine the traffic on a number of unlicensed gambling resources by analyzing search queries and results of the output. Also, the calculations will be based on the amount that the user usually spends on the game in licensed online casinos: will take data on 139 thousand gambling accounts of seven leading operators in the country. Thus want to get closer to the assessment of black GGR.
However, the method has many disadvantages, because there is evidence that the rates can be very different on black and white gambling sites. In addition, users can simply stay on the resource without spending money.

The regulator realizes this and offers gambling operators to help improve the methodology with their proposals. It is also going to analyze the ways in which users get to illegal sites from social networks, messengers and streaming platforms.
