The building of Kiev’s main post office, which belongs to the Ukrposhta company, may be sold for a casino. This was announced by Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smelyanskyy.
In 2021, the company Ukrposhta, which belongs to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, plans to sell several of its objects. Among them is the building of Kiev main post office, located in the very center of the capital.
Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smelyansky in his recent interview did not rule out the possibility of selling the building to a hotel business or a gambling operator.
“The building of the main post office should not change visually. It is true that air conditioners should be removed so that it would be quite historical, but for this we need to do reconstruction, install an internal air conditioning system, for which we need quite large funds. But I am sure that there will be investors who are ready to do it. In my opinion, it is much better for Kiev citizens than when postal cars go to Maidan and create traffic jams,” Smelyansky said.

The Ukrposhta CEO compared the possible transformation of the Ukrposhta building into a casino with the purchase of a famous hotel in Washington, D.C. “[This hotel – ed.] is located in the building of the former Washington Post Office. A very beautiful, historic building, with a spire. So, it was once bought by Trump for $300 million, and now it costs $1.3 billion.” We shall remind you that in Ukraine already 13 hotels and hotels with 3-5 stars classification have received permits to open gambling establishments.
According to the new law, gambling enterprises can be opened only in hotels and hotels with classification of at least 3-5 stars. For example, slot machine halls and betting shops are allowed in hotels of 3-5 stars level with room stock of at least 25 rooms, and for Kiev – at least 50 rooms.

A full-fledged casino can be located only in 4-5-star hotels (for Kiev – only 5 stars), country vacation complexes with five-star hotels and separate territorial gaming zones, the Cabinet of Ministers is still working on the creation of which.
