The vast majority of Dutch players choose to play with legal operators, and the most favorite types of gambling in the country are lottery and casinos. This is according to two reports by the country’s gambling regulator KSA.
The papers investigated that between 87% and 95% of users choose the services of licensed operators. This is significantly higher than the stated target of 80% in 2021, iGB writes. “Such an indicator is something to be proud of,” says the head of the regulator Michael Groutesen. According to him, the country owes the high percentage to the fact that legal operators are more visible to the consumer due to the ability to advertise.

Meanwhile, online casinos account for 27.25% (or €1.09 billion) of GGR, and the figure is up 34% year-on-year. Land-based casinos account for 33.75%. Here, too, there is an increase, but by 19%. In general, the country’s residents spend less on games than the EU average. In particular, players here are not as “generous” as in France, Finland and Denmark, but are “more generous” than the Irish.
Overall, in the first half of 2024, the country’s GGR amounted to about 752 million euros, which is 8% higher than in the second half of last year. Sports betting remains a small part of the country’s gambling market, although since the opening of the market in 2021, the income of companies in this area has tripled. However, even now, bookmakers account for 9% of the market, while online bookmakers account for 7%. Land-based betting in the country is represented by two monopoly companies – Zeturf and TOTO Winkel.
