The controversial bill 9256-d, which imposes a number of restrictions on the gambling business, will be voted on in the second reading as early as October. This was stated in an interview with “Ukrainian News” by the head of the parliamentary financial committee, Daniil Hetmantsev. “We will definitely submit it in October. The liquidation of KRAIL will definitely happen, without any objections.
Right now, we are discussing changes to the restrictions on advertising and sponsorship. We insist on a ban on advertising, but we have been approached by the Ministry of Sports and a huge number of sports organizations, which noted that they survive solely on sponsorship,” said the MP. He added that he cannot bring himself to ban sponsorship of sports just because some companies used it to advertise gambling. Therefore, Hetmantsev plans to determine the ratio of advertising space to the overall size of announcements and the timing of sponsorship advertisements, while still allowing sponsorship in sports. He also wants to allow companies to advertise gambling services on their own websites.

Recall that a powerful resonance arose in the media and social networks due to a petition by soldier Pavlo Petrychenko. He highlighted the issue of gambling addiction in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and called for a ban on soldiers playing gambling games, as well as for military units and charitable foundations to refuse assistance from gambling companies. Soon the petition gathered the required 25,000 votes. The head of the parliamentary tax committee, Daniil Hetmantsev, blamed KRAIL for the problems in the gambling market. Shortly after, the committee adopted a modified version of bill 9256-d, which includes the provision for the liquidation of the commission. The National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) adopted a package of decisions to restrict the activities of online casinos. The gambling business, however, views bill 9256-d extremely negatively and considers it a lobbying effort for lottery interests.
