Daniel Negreanu was in Canada streaming the WSOP Online Bracelet Series on GGPoker. But his first day ended quicker than he expected after a potential slow roll. A seven-time WSOP bracelet winner, Negreanu was playing in the $5,000 WSOP Online Main Event, a $25 million guaranteed no-limit hold’em tournament. He made his first attempt to advance to the next day on Friday, hoping to build a stack and fight for his eighth bracelet. However, his play ended abruptly when he mistimed his all-in move.

Was it a slow roll? Just over two hours into the stream, 113 players remained in the session at Level 6, with Negreanu sitting with 65.4 big blinds. The game opened with “TCCWang” raising from middle position to 2.3 big blinds. Negreanu called in late position with 9♠9♦, as did “Be Myself” on the button and “joyeux” in the small blind. Then “Erlango”, the second-biggest stack at the table (115 big blinds), three-bet to 16.5 big blinds.

“What’s going on here? Are we getting squeezed?” Negreanu wondered as the original raiser folded. “The big blind is squeezing. This is the same guy who did it with king-queen earlier. I’m going all in.” Negreanu did indeed move all in, forcing the button and small blind to fold. Then “Erlango,” who finished seventh for $86,108 in the $300 Gladiators of Poker event earlier in the series, paused to think.

“He thinks it’s good, as long as he doesn’t slowroll us,” Negreanu told his audience as his opponent pondered. As it turned out, “Erlango” was either slowrolling the poker legend or was distracted by something else. But he soon called with K♦K♣.

“What were you thinking about?” Negreanu laughed. “He slowrolled me.”The flop came 5♣10♦6♣, doing nothing to help the 50-year-old “Kid Poker.” However, the 9♣ on the turn gave Negreanu a set, dramatically increasing his chances of winning … until the J♣ on the river gave “Erlango” the winning flush. Negreanu was eliminated well before the end of the first day’s session. Curious about what’s happening in the world of gambling? Follow global updates on the casino industry and get the insights.
