Tom Dwan intended to join the record-breaking field in the $10K PLO Championship, which, for the first time, attracted 811 entries. The American poker pro paid his buy-in and arrived at his table but was soon forced to forfeit his stack and leave the competition.

The reason? According to WSOP rules, in tournaments with a $10,000 buy-in or higher, players must queue up after late registration closes and wait for the next level before being seated. Dwan seemingly overlooked this detail, and the organizers refused to make an exception, even for a poker superstar of his caliber.
“Because of rules like these, regulars increasingly prefer private games,” Dwan remarked, voicing his frustration. The poker player insists that there must be some solution for players who want to play. According to Tom Dwan, because of such rules, experienced players are increasingly choosing private games.

Dwan’s stance was supported by several notable poker professionals, including Patrick Leonard and Chris Brewer.
