The authorities of the Japanese prefecture of Osaka have chosen the American company MGM Resorts International to build a casino resort on the artificial island of Yumeshima. The project will cost about $10bn.
In April 2014, the governor of Osaka Prefecture Ichiro Matsui said that the artificial island of Yumeshima could become “a place to build a large integrated casino resort”. It took 4 years to resolve all the problems associated with the start of this project.
Now the Las Vegas-based gaming company MGM Resorts International will build a casino resort on Yumeshima together with Japanese financial company ORIX.
The plan is to build several 2,500-room hotels, meeting rooms, exhibition space and a 3,500-seat theater. The resort is planned to attract at least 20 million visitors annually. About 15 thousand personnel will be hired to serve the guests. Already next year, the contractors must submit a development plan for the area to the central government of Japan, as well as obtain licenses for integrated gambling resorts. If all goes according to plan – MGM casino may open in Japan in the second half of the 2020s.

Recall, a few months ago, the authorities of the Japanese city of Yokohama announced the creation of a casino complex or “integrated resort”. The development of the $3.4 million resort project was included in the city’s budget for 2021.
Politicians are calling the complex an “integrated resort,” and some of the money earmarked for it will be spent on “promoting public understanding” of the benefits of such establishments. Community groups in the metropolitan area have been pushing the idea of a casino resort to boost the economy and boost tourism.
In addition to lobbying, the money will be spent on researching infrastructure and transportation access to important Yokohama sites from the new casino, as well as verifying information on the state’s private sector partners.
Those partners could include Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, Genting Singapore Ltd, Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd, Sega Sammy Holdings Inc and Shotoku Corp.
